"Paper Spring"
KP 4/12

So I haven't updated in a while due to lack of time/having something prepared to show you all. To make up for it, I posted a highly anticipated piece that I did quite awhile ago but only got back until recently.

For a spring break art project, I was forced to make a sculpture that required there be a piece for every inch I am tall. I'm 5'10ish. That's seventy, stupid, little pieces I had to find and then figure out what the heck to do with them all. I had been playing around with and idea of doing something with cherry blosoms and a single branch. I was in luck since my dad had just trimmed the branches on one of the trees outside.

There are seventy little flowers on this 'tree', each punched out individually, painted, and decorated with glitter and jems. Then there are seventy wires to attach them to the branches and a few have tiny beads on them. Ribbons were also tired on. All of this was put into some quick fix cement in a vase. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much work. I literally made this the day before it was due and cried the entire time.

This was just a huge pain in the butt even if it turned out really nice. I got a lot of complements out of it, which is always good to hear. Now that it's done, I'm really proud of it but it has to be my least favorite project. I don't really do well with 3-D sculptures since I'm really bad at creating something that would actually function outside of my mind.

Special thanks to my aunt who lent me her flower stamps and cutter to make all the flowers. Also to my mom who helped me put the thing together and for coming up with a lot of the ideas. You were both very helpful~
