"Postal Yellow"
The last painting project we did in art was a downtown Roseburg street that we took a photo of. I chose to use the street next to the post office that leads up into the neighborhoods. Eckman wanted it done 'uber, hyper, realistic" bit I don't think anyone ever actually does what he says and neither do I!For me, landscapes are always made better when done in my main man Van Gogh's style! It's realistic and unrealistic at the same time! It's very thick looking and the colors are always boosted. I tried to do that too but the photo had less yellow than I origonally thought it did and had hoped to intesnify the already exsisting colors but I ended up adding instead. I wanted yellow to be the biggest color in the painting so almost every aspect of it has yellow in it.
I'm really proud with this painting. The porportions are really off I mean, look at the size of that mail truck compared to everything else! I have no idea what I was thinking when I did it.
I'm also in love with how the outlining really inhanced the image and made the right things pop.
This was suppose to be a one point study. This is where you have a 'vanishing point' (the farthest you can see in the picture) and everything in the photo can be traced back to that point. I can't exsplain it very well but I found this awesome video on youtube that was so helpful ( I have no idea what the video was called or if I saved it but I'm pretty sure if you just type in 'one point perspective' you'll find it. I think the guy's acount thing was called Dragon Tomato or something)! I don't think I'm good at doing this but whatever!
The hardest part was trying to porportion everything right...which I totally failed at. But, I had a lot of fun at this and was really happy with the outcome so that's all that really matters! Unlike the painting I finished recently (you'll possibly see this painint coming up next week).
Thanks for reading once again! Sorry there was no post last week. I ment to but I get so wrapped up in other things that I have to do that I forget I need to do something until it's too late! See ya next week!
